How to Start An ISP
Internet has now become important for almost every field. All the major work is done through internet. Stock exchanges are linked with each other through internet; internet plays an important role in education as well; offices, industries, even online transactions have make life easy for us. Most of the people don’t even know how things work so smoothly for them when they load web pages or log on every day. Internet is provided to you by different Internet Service Providers (ISPs). It is not easy to start your own ISP, because it needs a hard work and a large start up cost. If you are dedicated and have enough investment with you, you can start your own ISP.
– The first thing you need to consider is the place to host your ISP. Although, you can start things on small basis, i.e. from your house or any other small building, it is suggested to estimate properly about things like building; staff (help support employees and IT professionals) and so on. Whenever everything is finalize, you are ready to move forward, get your ISP registered with the state you are living in and your tax number. You also need a bank account linked with your business.
– Unless you are not a billionaire, you cannot even think of laying your own cables. The best way is to contact other ISPs in the area and estimate the amount they charge for renting T1 connections each month. In the beginning, most of the ISPs put few hundred users on a single T1 connection. You need to adjust your bandwidth according to the load on the connection. If you are not a big investment, it is enough to rent a T1 connection for small business.
– Just having an ISP is not enough. There are so many things which are required for users to get online. Being an ISP, some special equipment is required to get user online. To control the online traffic from users to connection or from connection to users, you need a Primary Rate interface (PRI). Then you need servers to handle different tasks. First you require a DNS server, then an email server and a web browsing server. All these devices and equipment should be connected with each other through a network hub and this will connect to an access switch, which will eventually connect to the T1 connection.
Becoming an ISP is not that simple as it seems to common man, there are so much complexities and technical work required to become an ISP. If you are new to this field, you might need to collect some beforehand information from your IT friends and other sources like Internet. A proper homework and a lot of hard work and dedication can bring you up as a successful ISP. Remember, your first aim should be your customers’ satisfaction and that will be achieved only by providing them hands on service.
